In the Philosophy Department, we cultivate critical thinking and effective communication to help individuals live more attentive, responsive, creative, and meaningful lives.

Students majoring in Philosophy can choose from:

  • Ethics and Social Justice ๐ŸŒ
  • Individualized Emphasis ๐Ÿงฉ

We also offer a minor in Philosophy, which can be completed fully online ๐ŸŒ. Students who major or minor in Philosophy may fulfill many of their requirements through the Global Citizenship Program (GCP) courses.

Upon completion of the Philosophy program, students will be able to:

  • ๐Ÿ” Critically Analyze: Evaluate arguments and assumptions, providing evidence for claims.
  • ๐Ÿ“š Explain Philosophical Concepts: Describe philosophical ideas and perspectives and their cultural contexts.
  • ๐ŸŒ Apply Philosophy: Use philosophical ideas to address concrete situations and current global and local issues.
  • โš–๏ธ Recognize Power Imbalances: Identify and address power imbalances that affect marginalized groups and strive for equitable and meaningful lives.
  • โœ๏ธ Create and Communicate: Develop their own philosophical positions and effectively communicate their ideas.

  • 36 Credit Hours: Complete 36 credit hours in Philosophy coursework.
  • 3 International Language Credit Hours: Study a foreign language to meet the requirement.
  • ๐ŸŒ Global Citizenship Program Hours: Fulfill the applicable Global Citizenship Program requirements.
  • ๐ŸŽ“ Electives: Choose additional courses to complete the degree.
