Webster University’s Sargent Conservatory of Theatre Arts is dedicated to shaping the next generation of theatre professionals into visionaries, creators, and leaders. 🎬

The program offers an intense four-year BFA degree in Acting or Musical Theatre. Both performance tracks are built upon a comprehensive block of courses known as the Conservatory. For musical theatre students, this includes additional training in music and dance. 🌟

In addition to their core performance training, students in both tracks engage in elective liberal arts courses, ensuring a well-rounded education that complements their specialized training. 🎭🎶🩰

By the end of their training, students in the Sargent Conservatory will be able to:

  • 🌍 Describe the cultural and historical context for theatrical practice.
  • 🛠️ Hone strong analytical, research, organizational, and technical skills for the creation and performance of theatre.
  • 🎭 Apply these skills creatively and competently to produce and perform theatre across various styles.
  • 👥 Model positive leadership, clear communication, and effective collaboration in theatrical settings.
  • ⚖️ Assess power relationships and biases within the arts and society, and work to promote equity and justice through theatre.

  • 📚 Grade Requirements: Only courses completed with a grade of C- or above will count toward fulfilling the specific requirements of the major.
  • 🎭 Auditions/Interviews: Required for all students planning to major in theatre. Auditions and interviews are held annually during the spring semester for entrance into the following fall session.

  • 📚 Minimum Credit Hours: 91 required credit hours
  • 🌍 Global Citizenship Program: Applicable University Global Citizenship Program hours, with accommodations for theatre BFAs
  • 🎨 Electives: As needed to meet the total credit hour requirements.
