Overall, the UK is the most-represented nation in the table with 27 universities featuring. The Times Higher Education Young University Rankings apply the same methodology as the World University Rankings to assess research-intensive universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The weightings are recalibrated to reflect the missions of young universities.

Times Higher Education’s Young University Rankings Editor Phil Baty says the UK is still ahead.

The university serves over 25,000 students, hailing from around 140 countries

It comprises six schools based across north London and offering degree programmes in Art and Design, Business, Law, Health and Education, Media and Performing Arts, and Science and Technology. It also houses the Institute for Work Based Learning, which provides training for organisations and individuals in their place of work.

The university has recently completed a multi-million pound infrastructure project developing its lecture theatres, libraries, laboratories and study areas.

As well as its main campus in London, Middlesex has also opened overseas campuses in Dubai, Mauritius and Malta, where students can gain internationally recognised British qualifications.

Reputation and Rankings

The university has been awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize three times and has twice received Queen’s Award for Enterprise (for its international work).

Middlesex  received QAA praise for its initiatives to improve student progression and achievement and the ‘distinctive contribution’ of the university’s Work Based Learning programmes.

In 2017, Middlesex was recognised for its high-quality teaching in the government’s Teaching Excellence Framework. The institute was awarded Silver and commended for valuing and rewarding teaching, as well as enhancing student engagement.

In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018, Middlesex University was the only modern university in London to feature in the top 500 global universities.

Middlesex was named the top modern university in London.

In the Guardian University Guide 2018, the university’s Film Production and Photography course was named the top in London.In the Complete University Guide 2018, its Sports Science and Social Work courses were named the top in London.
